Charging Your Phone Will Soon Become History

Technology is evolving at a very fast pace but one area that has not received ground breaking results is the area of battery - the very products that keep our technology working until now. Before I go on with this ground breaking report from one of the big tech companies that is working hard to make sure that we do not need to plug our phones to a battery charging unit, it is important to point out that there are batteries that last 20 years on certain devices and there are also batteries that gets charged wirelessly, one of the latest battery charting technology in town.

Imagine not having to look for a socket to charge your phone anymore, imagine if you don't even have to worry about your phone dying out on you just because the battery is weak. Well, that reality is about to happen soon, thanks to the likes of Energous, Nikola Labs and some few other ones. What these companies are trying to achieve is the ability for our smartphones to convert cellular and Wi-Fi signals into low-powered energy that will charge the smartphones with the help of a specialize antennas in the phone that would focus these waves. Already, it is possible to charge smartphones wirelessly but the device has to be place on a mat or pad for the battery to get charged. The way forward according to these technology companies is to eliminate the need for a pad or mat and just allow the phone to continuously charge its battery by assimilating cellular and WiFi signals and converting them to energy that will charge the batteries.

According to Energous, the plan to release wireless chargers and phone cases will be in late 2016 and will allow you charge your phone at up to a 20 feet distance but charges faster at a 5 feet distance. The company already demonstrated the technology at this years's Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas for which they won two "Best in Shows" awards and three other honors. The interesting part of the story is that Energous have signed a commitment with a top tier tech company that will build the wireless receivers right into the gadgets so there won't be a need for phone case and these technology would be used for millions of devices. Isn't that good news?

Nikola Labs also showed off their battery extending cases at the TechCrunch event. Nikola Labs smartphone cases harness and recycle the unused energy our WiFi routers & cell towers creates and use it to charge the battery of the phones. Unlike Energous, you won't need to wait till the end of 2016; Nikola Labs cases will ship later this year. Complete wireless charging will be a game changer for the smartphone industry including other industries and it's coming very soon. What are your thoughts about this? Exciting? Yes it is.
