How to fix Samsung Galaxy S5 "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" error after Lollipop update

This post will address the error message "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped" on Samsung Galaxy S5.

While many Samsung Galaxy S5 owners were happy the day Samsung rolled out the much anticipated Android 5 Lollipop update, all the excitements turned to disappointments when the once working phone became a useless piece of technology.

One of the most common errors owners were getting was "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped," which often pops up when you dial a number or when you open the Contacts app. There were, however, some reports that the error would also pop up without apparent reason or cause.

I will guide you through troubleshooting your phone to find what the culprit is and fix the problem.

Step 1: Troubleshoot the app first

Since we don't know, as of this point, what's causing the problem, we will have to troubleshoot the app that's specifically mentioned in the error message--Contacts. The most logical thing you can do about it is to clear its cache and data so it will be reset to its default settings. Don't worry, your contact list will not be touched. There is one service that handles all your contacts and that's the Contact Storage service.
  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap Contacts.
  6. Tap Clear cache button.
  7. Tap Clear data button, then OK.
If the problem occurred without apparent reason or cause, then the app may have just crashed. I would assume at this point that you have already rebooted your phone because that's one of the most effective (and the easiest) ways to deal with app crashes.

Step 2: Disable / uninstall Google+ app

If you have Google+ app installed on your device, there's a chance it might be causing the problem especially if you allowed to the device to sync with it. There were actually a lot of owners who said disabling the app may just cause this specific problem, so I suggest you try it as well. It's up to you if you just want to disable or uninstall it.
  1. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
  4. Swipe right to the ALL screen.
  5. Scroll to and tap Google+.
  6. Tap Stop button.
More often if the error is triggered by the Google+ app, it will occur if there's no internet connection or if it intermittently cuts off.

Step 3: Boot your phone in safe mode

Assuming you already cleared the cache and the data of the Contacts app that you have already stopped or uninstalled the Google+ app and the problem still persists, try booting the phone in safe mode to isolate the problem. It will tell you right away if third-party apps have something to do with it or not.
  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When 'Samsung Galaxy S5' appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
If the error message still occurs in safe mode, then the problem must be caused by one or some of the pre-installed apps or the firmware itself. Otherwise, you just have to find the third-party app that's causing it and uninstall it. You may start from the most recent apps you installed.

Step 4: Wipe the cache partition

If the problem occurred after the recent Lollipop update, then there's a chance some of the caches have been corrupted. This step will guide you through deleting all caches, good and bad alike. Don't worry, none of your files, data or settings will be deleted or changed. Also, the phone will be forced to create new caches after this procedure…
  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Step 5: Perform full hard reset

This is going to be the last resort if all else fails. Don't forget to backup all your files and data especially ones that are saved in the phone's internal storage as they will be deleted.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight 'wipe data / factory reset.'
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until 'Yes -- delete all user data' is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
In case the reset failed as well, then it's time you brought the phone to your provider and have it checked. The firmware you installed may have some issues. Their technicians will reinstall it for you.

Surfing on the Web: Fast tips for better use

  •  Tabs: display multiple pages at the same time:

Sometimes, we need to view multiple internet pages simultaneously. To avoid goings and comings between sites, a trick allows you to open them simultaneously. So you can move from one page to another with a single click.

When you open a page in Google Chrome for eg, its name appears in a tab above the address field. To open a second page, click the small button on the right after this first tab.

Surfing on the Web: Fast tips for better use

A second tab called "New Tab" is displayed next to the original tab. And at the center of the window, a white page with thumbnail (s) for different web pages that you have visited several times in the last days. If the page where you want to go is listed, click on its thumbnail; otherwise, enter its address in the address search-bar area and press Enter.

Surfing on the Web: Fast tips for better use

The second page displays, but the first tab is always there, so you can switch between the two pages by clicking on the respective tab. And nothing prevents you from viewing a third page by repeating the first two steps.

  •  Re-open accidentally closed tab:

When surfing the internet, it can happen that you accidentally close a tab by pressing the small cross at the top right of the web page. To find the Internet tab closed, here's a tip:
 1. Press " Ctrl " and " Shift " and the letter " T " at the same time.
 2. The last closed page will reopen to the right of the page you're currently viewing.
 3. If this does not open the desired tab, then repeat the operation several times. All pages previously closed will open one after the other in chronological order of their closure.

  •  Search for a word in a web page or a text document:

Using a simple keyboard shortcut, you can quickly find a word, name or phrase ... in your text documents, or on a web page.
Do you know the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + F" for PC and "Apple + F" for Mac? This shortcut will save much time avoiding you browse all the pages of a text document or web in search of a word or phrase.
 1. When both keys "Ctrl" and "F" (for PC) or "Apple" and "F" (for Mac) are pressed together, a window appears at the top right of your screen.
 2. Type in the word you searching for.
 3. The desired word then appears highlighted in your page.
 4. To switch to the next found word, press the Enter key (or click on "next" or use the arrows for some versions of Windows).
This shortcut is universal: it works for all programs: web page text document, PDF...

  •  Take a Screenshot:

The screen shows something amazing? Photograph it!
No need for a camera, just press the Print Screen key. Then go to Start > Programs > All Programs > Accessories, then click Paint. Pull down Edit menu then click Paste.
The photo appears. You can save it.

  •  Add favorites to your browser:

You often visit the same websites that are your favorites. You can make them quickly accessible from your web browser. Your favorite sites can be accessed directly from the Favorites bar of your browser.
 - Go first to your favorite site and grab the icon on the left of the URL with your mouse and drag it by sliding it under the URL box of the navigation window. Do the same with all your favorite sites.  You can then click on it directly without going through a menu or typing the URL.
 - The name that registers is often too long and occupies too much space in the Favorites bar; it is preferable to shorten it. To do this, right click on the name, click Edit, or Properties (depending on the browser) and then Rename.

  •  Hide the screen very quickly !

Someone enters the room and you want to hide your computer screen? A keyboard shortcut allows you to do this!
Simultaneously press the '' Windows '' key and '' D '' and all the windows disappear. To find them, press the same key combination.
Note: Here's the Windows Key:

Google Eddystone: Open Source and Cross Platform Beacon Technology

According to Google, Eddystone is a protocol specification that defines a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) message format for proximity beacon messages. It describes several different frame types that may be used individually or in combinations to create beacons that can be used for a variety of applications.

Google Eddystone

Give your users better location and proximity experiences by providing a strong context signal for their devices in the form of Bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacons with Eddystone™, the open beacon format from Google.

The Eddystone specification includes a number of broadcast frame types, including Eddystone-URL, the backbone of the Physical Web.

Eddystone: Openness and Flexibility

Google Eddystone Location Proximity

Well, it is not just the open nature; Eddystone supports multiple frame types for different use cases, making it easy to introduce new functionality easily. Historically, Bluetooth beacons signify one-way communications with the primary goal of sending a notification capable of displaying or transferring information upon a tap. Due to support of multiple frameworks, vendors will be able to use Eddystone for different functionality or purpose.

It can broadcast three signal types: UUID (similar to the iBeacon standard), URL (a successor to the UriBeacon standard) and TLM (a new telemetry signal).

Eddystone

Universally Unique Identifier (UUID): This is a 128-bit value that can separately identify every specific beacon in the world, which an app can listen and perform actions for. For instance, you can walk in WalMart, your favorite retail store. WalMart could deploy beacons in its store. The Walmart app could be programmed to listen for specific beacons and send special coupons or such information. The downside to UUIDs is that you need the appropriate app do anything with the information. This brings us to the second frame type.

URLs: With this capability, users don’t need to download app. The store can send a URL to the user’s phone and the consumer can look up the coupon or relevant information on a web browser. URL instead of UUID looks like a feasible option with universal appeal. It works best for small businesses without a dedicated app.

beacon fleet

Ephemeral Identifiers (EIDs): Privacy and security are the center point of this new technology. With Ephemeral Identifiers (EIDs), you can allow only authorized clients to decode them. While the technical specification of this feature will be released soon, we can be rest assured that this feature will allow users to do tasks in a secure manner.

Telemetry Data: This frame type would allow organization to manage their vast fleets of beacons. Beacons are battery driven and need batteries changed or fixed frequently. Telemetry frame type in sync with Proximity Beacon API can help deployers monitor beacons’ battery health and displacement.

How to fix and prevent Samsung Galaxy S5 from overheating [Troubleshooting Guide]

After the Android 5 Lollipop update, there have been so many Samsung Galaxy S5 owners who were complaining about their devices heating up to the point that they overheat. As a result, the performance is affected as the phone starts to become sluggish and sometimes reboots on its own.

In this post, I will quickly walk you through troubleshooting the overheating issue and prevent it from happening again in the past.

MUST VISIT: http://pinkberrylicious.blogspot.com /2015/06/samsung-galaxy-s5-troubleshooting.html" target="_blank">Samsung Galaxy S5 Troubleshooting Page

Step 1: Boot the Galaxy S5 in safe mode

Let us immediately isolate the problem. I understand you just updated your phone so it is very much possible that some caches of your apps have gone corrupt resulting to conflicts when the new system had its first run.

Booting in safe mode will temporarily disable those apps leaving the phone running in its barebones. If the overheating was caused by one or some of the apps, then the device should not overheat when in safe mode. Follow these steps to boot in safe mode…
In case your newly updated Galaxy S5 still heats in safe mode, then it concerns the firmware now and not just apps.

Step 2: Wipe the cache partition

During the first boot, the Android system regardless of the version will create files that will be used to make apps run smoothly the next time the owner opens them. These files will stay in the cache partition until the users deletes them.

When you update your phone, those files will automatically become obsolete but will never be deleted. The new system may still attempt to use pre-existing files and that's when conflicts are created, which will also contribute to the overheating issue.

Wiping the cache partition will dump all those files and force the phone to create new ones, this time they're compatible with the current version. That is why it is necessary to delete those caches from time to time or after an update. Here's how…
If the problem remained after wiping the cache partition, then it's time you did a more complicated troubleshooting procedure that will delete everything in the phone's storage as well as reset everything to factory defaults.

Step 3: Perform full hard reset

This is going to be your last result to fix the overheating issue that is caused by the recent Lollipop update. Apparently, the problem is just because of the corrupt caches but may also be because of corrupt Android data. You need to delete all those data and eliminate everything in the data partition to give the phone a fresh start with its new firmware.

Before you actually reset your phone, make sure you backup every bit of data you don't want to lose. Remember, reset will delete all files, settings, apps, etc. that were store in the phone's internal storage. If you have a microSD card, then just transfer them over and remove the card, and then, follow these steps…
I hope this troubleshooting guide helps.
